NIC Tamil Nadu State Centre empowers the Government of Tamil Nadu, Central Departments, and PSUs to deliver innovative e-governance solutions, with a strong focus on citizen-centric services that benefit the common man.
NIC Tamil Nadu has facilitated NICNET connectivity and high-speed National Knowledge Network (NKN) links to IITs and various premier universities across the state for research purposes. It also supports the Government of Tamil Nadu and its State Data Centre operations for day-to-day activities.
The State Centre operates from key locations — TN Secretariat, Ezhilagam Complex, and its headquarters at Rajaji Bhavan, Chennai , where Network Operations, a Mini Data Centre, and NKN Centres are functional. It also houses specialized divisions, including a Mobile Competency Centre and an Open Source Technology Group (OTG), which lead open-source development and research activities at the national level.
NIC maintains District Centres in all 38 district headquarters, addressing software requirements and initiatives at both district and grassroots levels.
Over the years, NIC Tamil Nadu has implemented a wide range of projects for the State Government, including:

- Vahan & Sarathi and e-Challan for the Regional Transport Offices
- TAX collection software for Rural Development & Town Panchayat
- State Election Commission for Local Body Elections.
- School Education Department.

- Social Welfare Schemes management
- eKalaal – Excise Department
- Web Application for Universities
- e-Office implmentaion for the entire state administration
In addition, the Government e-Procurement System of NIC (GePNIC), developed and operated from NIC’s Chennai centre, powers and manages the complete e-procurement ecosystem across the country.
